Submission Guidelines:

  1. Eligibility: The campaign is open to artists and creators of all ages and backgrounds, regardless of their level of experience. A parent or guardian must submit for persons under the age of 18.

  2. Artwork Medium: Submissions can encompass visual, audio, or spoken word art. This includes but is not limited to paintings, drawings, digital art, sculptures, music compositions, spoken word performances, and audiovisual pieces. The artwork must be the original creation of the submitting artist.

  3. Artwork Theme: Submissions should explore the theme of the tobacco industry's predatory marketing of menthol products to marginalized communities. Artwork should aim to shed light on this issue, expose the consequences, or advocate for change.

  4. Submission Deadline: Submissions must be received by Oct 31, 2024. We reserve the right to extend the deadline. Late submissions will not be considered.

  5. Number of Entries: Each artist may submit a maximum of three (3) artworks or pieces for consideration.

  6. Submission Format: For visual art: High-resolution images in JPEG or PNG format. For audio or spoken word: Audio files in MP3 or WAV format. Artist's statement: A brief statement (up to 250 words) explaining the inspiration, message, or story behind the artwork or piece.

  7. Licensing Agreement: By submitting artwork or audio, artists agree to license their work for use in a short documentary and related campaign materials. The artists will retain ownership of their work.

  8. Age Categories for Selection: There will be three (3) age categories for selection:[13-17] [18-29] [30+]

Rules:

  1. Selection Process: Submissions in each age category will be reviewed by a panel of judges, numbering five (5), who are experts in the fields of art and documentary filmmaking or members of the coalition. The selection will be based on artistic quality, storytelling potential, and the artist's background within their respective age category.

  2. Notification: Selected artists will be notified via email. Only the selected artists will be contacted. You will not receive any communications prior to selection. If you are not selected you will not receive any specific notice.

  3. License Agreement: Artists whose work is chosen for the campaign will be offered a licensing fee for the use of their artwork or audio in the short documentary and related promotional materials. The terms of the licensing agreement will be provided to selected artists upon acceptance.

  4. Attribution: Artists will be credited for their work in all campaign materials, including the short documentaries and promotional content.

  5. Promotion: Artists may be asked to participate in promotional activities related to the campaign, such as interviews or social media features. Participation is optional.

  6. Artwork Preservation: Artists' original artwork will not be physically acquired by the campaign. The artists are responsible for the preservation and safekeeping of their original work.

  7. Publication: The short documentaries will be made publicly available as part of the campaign. Artists understand and agree to the public display of their artwork or audio in this context.

  8. Disqualification: Submissions that do not adhere to the guidelines or include offensive or inappropriate content will be disqualified.

  9. Rights: Artists retain all intellectual property rights to their artwork or audio and may continue to exhibit or distribute their work independently.

  10. Changes: The campaign organizers reserve the right to make changes to these guidelines and rules if necessary, without notice.
